San Leandro is 1-9 against Castro Valley since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Pirates will face off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. San Leandro's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Castro Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
San Leandro took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Encinal, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pirates' pitchers stepped up to hand the Jets a 2-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted against the Jets since May 10, 2016.
Meanwhile, Castro Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 24-0 margin over the Monarchs. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Adri Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Anderson was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giselle De Casas, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zaylee Gutierrez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Castro Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive matches.
San Leandro is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Castro Valley, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3.
San Leandro skirted past Castro Valley 4-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
