The Quitman Wolverines will take on the Hicks Pirates in a tournament on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Quitman 2.5, Hicks 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Quitman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Louisiana's top teams: Jena, who was ranked sixth at the time (Quitman was ranked 17th). Quitman fell just short of Jena by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. It was the first time this season that the Wolverines let down their fans at home.
Cali Deal was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Deal was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Maggie Guyotte was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted over her last six contests. Karley Huckaby also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Even though they lost, Quitman lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Hicks entered their tilt with Fairview on Thursday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 13-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Quitman, Hicks also got a great game from a two-way player: Courtlyn Dousay. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Dousay was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
In other batting news, Jayde Wilbanks and Kaydence Hickman did most of the damage at the plate: Wilbanks scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Hickman went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Abby Addison was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Hicks pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Quitman, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-4.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Quitman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Hicks struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Quitman took their victory against Hicks in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 12-1. Will Quitman repeat their success, or does Hicks has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
