Absegami is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Hammonton is on an 11-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Braves will welcome the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Absegami got the win against Our Lady of Mercy Academy by a conclusive 14-6.
Kali Jorgensen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Jorgensen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Absegami was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Our Lady of Mercy Academy only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, while Hammonton put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Buena. The Blue Devils blew past the Chiefs 11-0.
Not much got past Ava Tyree, who gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks to keep Buena off the board.
On the hitting side, Leah Alexander and Lauren Potter did most of the damage at the plate: Alexander went 2-for-5 with two triples and two RBI, while Potter went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Potter a new career-high. Hannah Hines was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Absegami is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Hammonton, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Absegami hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like Hammonton struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Absegami came out on top in a nail-biter against Hammonton in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
