Brandon Figueroa Delivers Best Effort of Season
Irvine was led to victory by Brandon Figueroa, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Thursday. Figueroa rushed for 335 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 18.6 yards per carry, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. His longest rush was for an incredible 94 yards.
Canyon had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Figueroa it was a similar story. When Figueroa last faced the Comanches back in August of 2023, he rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

On Friday, Sonora had to settle for second even though Olin Morales Hyder put up the best numbers he has all season. Morales Hyder rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also picked up 30 receiving yards and a touchdown, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 71-yard run.
Sonora now has a losing record at 3-4. Morales Hyder and Sonora will take on Santa Ana at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Mckelvy Came Up Big in El Toro's 31-28 Win
Jack Mckelvy posted a new career-high in rushing yards on Friday. He rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns.
This year, Mckelvy has thrown 17 touchdowns while averaging 193.7 passing yards per game. It gets even more impressive: after seven games last season, he was only averaging 32.46 passer rating per game. This year he is averaging 96.9 passer rating.
