Baseball Recap: Malad Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Malad, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Declo Hornets by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Dragons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Malad got a great performance from Brycen Howe as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Howe has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Malad let Carter Blaisdell and Cale Briggs run wild. Blaisdell went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI, while Briggs scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Malad is undefeated when Briggs posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Carter Carey was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Malad pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Declo, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Malad wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-0 loss against Clearfield on the 3rd. As for Declo, they will welcome Glenns Ferry at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pilots have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
