The Valdosta Wildcats put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 45-41 win over Westover. Given Valdosta's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Westover is ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valdosta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Israel Jenrette, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds. Jenrette is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Eric Love, who scored 17 points.
Westover's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Milton, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Milton is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Holmes, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Valdosta has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 8-0 record. As for Westover, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valdosta will take on St. Anne-Pacelli at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully St. Anne-Pacelli focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. Westover will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on December 9th.
