The Jefferson Eagles will take on the Delavan-Darien Comets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Jefferson took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Whitewater 3-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Whippets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.
Jefferson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Erdman, who had seven digs and three aces. That's the most aces Erdman has posted over her last 19 contests. Aria Fetherston was another key player, getting eight digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Delavan-Darien sidestepped Elkhorn for a 3-2 victory.
Delavan-Darien had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 18-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-18, 15-12.
Delavan-Darien's win bumped their record up to 16-9. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 16-13.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Jefferson has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6 aces per game. However, it's not like Delavan-Darien struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Jefferson skirted past Delavan-Darien 3-2 in their previous matchup back in September. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
