After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Colorado Academy, the Jefferson Academy Jaguars were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They breezed by Wellington on the road to the tune of 48-15. Given Jefferson Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Wellington is ranked 307th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elsa Nygren continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a triple-double on 21 points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks. She hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Avah Berlin was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six steals.
Jefferson Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Wellington, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson Academy and Eagle Ridge Academy will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 8, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Eagle Ridge Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. After both having extra time off, Wellington and Frontier Academy will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Frontier Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
