The Wharton Tigers were the 57-55 winner over the Victoria East Titans when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Wharton fell to Victoria East 57-52. That's two games in a row now that Wharton has lost by exactly five points.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Angell Gaona, Jr., who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Korian Baldridge, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Wharton and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for Victoria East, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wharton will be home for the holidays to greet Sweeny at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sweeny focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. Victoria East will be home for the holidays to greet Flour Bluff at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Flour Bluff presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Victoria East in Texas (Flour Bluff is ranked 329th, while Victoria East is ranked 671st).
