Basketball Recap: Layken Horton Key Part of a Team Effort in Warriors Win

Tuscaloosa Home Educators posted their closest win since January 27, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 36-33 victory over the North River Christian Chargers. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Chargers back in December of 2024, they had to take a 33-30 loss.

Tuscaloosa Home Educators' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Layken Horton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Horton has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lydia Duncan, who went 5 for 12 en route to 13 points.

Tuscaloosa Home Educators smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North River Christian only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Several Chargers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alayna Fuller, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points and five steals. That's the most steals Fuller has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Burch, who posted six points along with 13 rebounds and eight assists.

Tuscaloosa Home Educators' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-5. As for North River Christian, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

Tuscaloosa Home Educators has already played their next contest, a 46-25 victory against Evangel Christian on the 14th. North River Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
