After six games on the road, Mays is heading back home. They will take on the Creekside Seminoles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mays' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matches.
Mays pushed their score all the way to 58 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a tough 82-58 defeat at the hands of Jackson. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Mays has suffered yet this season.
Mays' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Germani Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds, and Davenport Cox who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Derron Lindsey ii, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Creekside's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 11th straight loss. They fell 83-75 to Northgate. While losing is never fun, Creekside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Northgate is ranked 156th).
Loss or not, Creekside got some senior leadership from Avery Gelsey and Amadou Onyia. Gelsey scored 18 points along with four steals, while Onyia. scored 20 points along with six steals. That's the first time this season that Gelsey scored 15 or more points.
Mays' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5. As for Creekside, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-15.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Mays hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 69.4 points per game. It's a different story for Creekside, though, as they've been averaging only 47.1 points per game. The only thing between Mays and another offensive beatdown is Creekside. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Mays strolled past Creekside in their previous meeting last Saturday by a score of 78-63. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Creekside's Cadence Burch, who scored 26 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Mays still be able to contain him? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
