After flying high against the Academy for Innovative Education Aviators last Friday, the Downtown Doral Dolphins came back down to earth. Downtown Doral took a 67-52 bruising from the Hurricanes on Monday. While losing is never fun, Downtown Doral can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 661st, while the Hurricanes are ranked 311th).
Despite the loss, Downtown Doral still got an impressive performance from Juan Diego Castro, who scored 23 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Castro grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Bueno, who scored eight points along with six assists and two steals.
Zachary Reynolds was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds for Somerset Academy South Homestead. Reynolds is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Colzie, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Downtown Doral's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-14. As for Somerset Academy South Homestead, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Downtown Doral will take on the Dolphins at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Marathon is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Somerset Academy South Homestead, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
