The Erie Tigers will face off against the Skyline Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Erie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Erie is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Legacy, who was ranked 17th at the time (Erie was ranked 25th). The Tigers blew past the Lightning 14-3 on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Maddox Burnett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Burnett was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Austin Muir was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Josiah Hussey, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Erie lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Skyline came up short against Monarch on Wednesday and fell 6-1. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Skyline saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Knapp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Matt Lanier was another, going 2-for-3 with one triple.
Erie's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Skyline, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10-1.
Skyline's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Erie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Skyline, though, as they've only averaged .226. Will they be able to contain Erie's hitters?
Erie took their win against Skyline in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 20-8 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
