Troy has gone a perfect 9-0 against Williamson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Troy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Troy blew Mansfield out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Mansfield got their revenge. The Trojans fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Trojans have suffered since April 16, 2024.
Brendan Gilliland was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Smith, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Williamson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 22-13 margin over Canton on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Williamson considering their two-run performance the game before.
The team relied heavily on Owen Cilino, who scored four runs while going 3-for-5. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Carter Tubbs was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.
Williamson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Williamson's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-2. As for Troy, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.
Williamson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Troy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. It's a different story for Williamson, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Troy's hitters?
Everything went Troy's way against Williamson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Troy made off with a 19-2 win. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
