Things were looking good for Avon Lake after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Westlake by a score of 12-11. While the Shoremen didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Demons 4-0 in the first period.
Chase Cartwright made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Adam McFadden, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Avon nor Bay made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Eagles skirted past the Rockets 4-3.
Blake Elder looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Avon is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise.
At the plate, Sam Spike was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Ian Cain was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.
Avon's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Avon Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.
Avon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Avon Lake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. It's a different story for Avon, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Avon Lake's hitters?
Avon Lake couldn't quite finish off Avon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Shoremen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
