Nansemond River is 2-8 against Grassfield since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Warriors will welcome the Grizzlies at 5:45 p.m.
Nansemond River came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Great Bridge, falling 7-1.
Nansemond River saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Buddy Baker, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Grassfield had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Braves get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.
Bryce Edick looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Grassfield is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.
At the plate, Christian Coley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Ian Shickley was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Grassfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indian River only posted an OBP of .263.
Grassfield's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Nansemond River, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Nansemond River has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Grassfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
