The Dixie Flyers pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Snow Canyon. Dixie has not had much luck with Snow Canyon recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Dixie lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kealah Faumuina. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 29 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Faumuina has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hali Smith, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Dixie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Snow Canyon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Hamlin, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Hamlin is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Kelly Howard was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with three steals.
Dixie's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Snow Canyon, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dixie will square off against Desert Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Desert Hills is ranked 62nd, while Dixie is ranked 40th). As for Snow Canyon, they will head out on the road to face off against Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hurricane has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 179 points over their last three matchups.
