Churchill County is 1-9 against Fernley since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Churchill County Greenwave will welcome the Fernley Vaqueros at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Churchill County was fully in charge, breezing past Wooster 47-9. The Greenwave have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.

Churchill County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karlie J. Simper, who posted five points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Simper is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amillya Bishop, who had ten points.
Churchill County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Fernley entered their tilt with Spring Creek on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 49-34 win over the Spartans. Given the Vaqueros' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Spartans are ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Churchill County better keep an eye on Taylor Tollestrup. She was instrumental in Fernley's win, dropping a triple-double on 24 points, ten rebounds, and 11 blocks. The dominant performance gave Tollestrup a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Laura Rosales, who put up five points in addition to seven boards and four steals.
Churchill County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Fernley, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Churchill County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Fernley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Churchill County might still be hurting after the 61-40 defeat they got from Fernley when the teams last played back in February of 2024.
