South Point put the hurt on North Gaston with a sharp 35-14 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for South Point, who have now won three matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
South Point's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Harrison McKinney, who rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. McKinney was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Chanyce Ford, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Despite the loss, North Gaston still got an impressive performance from Jurnee Lattimore, who picked up 217 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Isaiah Ewing was another key contributor, throwing for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
South Point's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for North Gaston, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Point will square off against Statesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Statesville is ranked 90th, while South Point is ranked 78th). As for North Gaston, they will head out on the road to face off against A.C. Reynolds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A.C. Reynolds will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
