This season hasn't been kind to the Baxter Springs Lions, who are still winless after their sixth matchup. They took a serious blow against Columbus on Friday, falling 59-8. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Baxter Springs in their matchups with Columbus: they've now lost six in a row.
Columbus was led to victory by Brylie Johnson and Katy Mooney. Johnson scored 12 points along with six steals, while Mooney scored 27 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Mooney scored 15 or more points. Ellie Helms was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Baxter Springs bumped their record down to 0-6 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight at home. As for Columbus, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Baxter Springs will head out on the road to challenge Columbus at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Columbus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday. Their road trip will continue as they head out to face College Heights Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th.
