Fife and Orting are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Trojans will head out to face off against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fife has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Fife and Franklin Pierce have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Trojans lost 14-2 to the Cardinals. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Trojans couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Orting entered their tilt with Foss on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Falcons. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
Macy Sullenger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Sullenger was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and five RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Taryn Janosik was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Alwina Alokoa was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Orting kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Fife's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-4. As for Orting, their record is now 3-5.
Orting's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Fife has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Orting, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Fife keep running through batters, or will the Cardinals buck the trend?
Everything went Fife's way against Orting in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Fife made off with an 8-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
