Basketball Recap: Trevan Cobb's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Charlton County over Hilliard

After flying high against Echols County on Friday, Charlton County came back down to earth. The Charlton County Indians lost to the Hilliard Red Flashes at home by a 61-45 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 448th in Georgia, while the Red Flashes are ranked 144th in Florida).

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trevan Cobb, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. Those 16 boards gave Cobb a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Cj Hall continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hilliard, going 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and seven assists. Hall is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ta'Veon Dunbar, who went 9 for 22 en route to 21 points.

Charlton County has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Hilliard, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charlton County has already played their next contest (against Lanier County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hilliard will venture away from home to challenge Bolles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Hilliard's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.
