South Vermillion is a perfect 10-0 against Covington since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will host the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. South Vermillion is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, South Vermillion made easy work of Attica and carried off a 15-9 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Shaylee Wallace was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Wallace was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Rosie Travioli was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Mady Crim was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
South Vermillion kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Covington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Benton Central.
Alex Sutherlin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brooke Rottmann, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
The win got South Vermillion back to even at 8-8. As for Covington, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.
South Vermillion took their victory against Covington in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
