Even though the McMichael Phoenix scored an imposing 58 points on Friday, the Walkertown Wolfpack still came out on top. Walkertown walked away with a 66-58 win over McMichael. Given Walkertown's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while McMichael is ranked 424th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walkertown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaden Tyson, who scored 12 points along with four steals. Jaylen Wilkerson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
McMichael's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cooper Kirkpatrick, who scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kirkpatrick has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Dunn, who scored 14 points.
The win was the third in a row for Walkertown, bringing their record for this year to 12-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.0 points per game. As for McMichael, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
Walkertown will be playing at home against T.W. Andrews at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. T.W. Andrews is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. McMichael won't have much time to rest: their next match is against West Forsyth at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th. West Forsyth is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 66.2 points per game.
