The Springstead Eagles entered their tilt with the Mitchell Mustangs with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Springstead blew past Mitchell 57-37. Considering Springstead has won seven matches by more than 19 points this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Springstead's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malanie Francis, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 rebounds. Francis is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was J'ziyah Munford, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tahlia Vazquez, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. Sydney Reinhart was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mitchell were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springstead only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Springstead pushed their record up to 11-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points per game. As for Mitchell, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Springstead will head out on the road to face off against Crystal River at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Crystal River is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Mitchell won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Gulf at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Gulf has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
