After a string of six wins, the Westerville South Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. The contest between Westerville South and Unioto wasn't particularly close, with Westerville South falling 71-54. While losing is never fun, Westerville South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Unioto is ranked 50th).
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ariyana Cradle, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cirrye White, who scored nine points.
Unioto was led to victory by Milee Smith and Mya Hamilton. Smith scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Hamilton shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hamilton has scored all season. Amelia Uhrig was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Westerville South's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Unioto, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
Westerville South will take on Dublin Scioto at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Unioto, they will head out on the road to challenge Olentangy at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Olentangy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
