The Union City Indians pushed their score all the way to 60 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Ansonia by a score of 62-60. Union City has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Union City's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luane Schoonbroodt, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Schoonbroodt scored a full 26.7% of Union City's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Gabby Ordonez was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Union City has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Ansonia, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Union City will head out on the road to face off against Centerville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Centerville is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Ansonia will take on Arcanum at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
