The Grace Prep Lions were the 46-20 winner over the Covenant Christian Cougars when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Grace Prep fell just short of Covenant Christian by a score of 38-35. Grace Prep gained 54 more yards on the day, but it was Covenant Christian that made the best of use of them.
Grace Prep's loss on Thursday came despite strong showings from Kaden Lehew and Bryce Prince. Lehew rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry, while Prince rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns.
Covenant Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Correll Buckhalter Jr. out in front who rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 82 receiving yards. Noah Hill also helped out with an impressive 84 receiving yards.
This is the second loss in a row for Grace Prep and nudges their season record down to 4-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only two points. As for Covenant Christian, their win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grace Prep will square off against Lake Country Christian at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. As for Covenant Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Trinity Christian is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
