It was a good run, but the Mancos Bluejays unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 43-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dove Creek. Mancos has not had much luck with Dove Creek recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Mancos' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Quincy Montoya, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Claire Goodwin who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That was a full 45.5% of Mancos' points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Kylie Gatlin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Dove Creek, scoring 24 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gatlin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ralynn Hickman, who scored seven points.
Mancos' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3. As for Dove Creek, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mancos won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ridgway at 12:30 p.m. on January 27th. Ridgway will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Mancos is ranked 109th). As for Dove Creek, they will be playing at home against Mancos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mancos focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
