The North Duplin Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jones Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though North Duplin has not done well against East Duplin recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. North Duplin took down East Duplin 67-53.
North Duplin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dujuan Armwood led the charge by scoring 13 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Treshawn Ruffin, who scored 8 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jones was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Union 69-37 on the road. Given Jones' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Union is ranked 377th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jones had a senior duo take command as Keonte' Roberts dropped a double-double on 22 points and 10 steals and Gabriel Butler scored 21 points along with 4 steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Butler has scored at least 25% of Jones' points. Another player making a difference was Gjamarion Burris, who scored 6 points along with 12 rebounds.
The win got North Duplin back to even at 1-1. As for Jones, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
North Duplin couldn't quite finish off Jones when the teams last played back in January and fell 54-51. Will North Duplin have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
