Basketball Recap: Bennington Skates Past Gering with Ease

Bennington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 71-37 win over the Gering Bulldogs. The Badgers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.

Bennington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Harper Bohaboj, who posted ten points along with six steals and five assists. Bohaboj is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Johnson, who went 5 of 12 en route to 14 points.

Bohaboj wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Bennington was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 20 assists in four consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Gering saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacey Cochran dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

Bennington pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Gering, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.

Bennington will head out to square off against Lincoln Northwest at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bennington is facing Lincoln Northwest at the right time seeing as Lincoln Northwest is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Gering, they will venture away from home to challenge Scottsbluff at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gering is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season.
