Given Smiths Station's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 46th in Alabama, while Shaw is ranked 201st in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Smiths Station's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tasha Judkins led the charge by scoring 8 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaya Crowell, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Shaw saw an underclassman step up: Quishyi Walcott dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Walcott is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Smiths Station's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32.33 points. As for Shaw, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Smiths Station will be playing at home against Eufaula at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eufaula is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Shaw, they will head out on the road to face off against Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
