On Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Johnson beat Portal 59-53. The win made it back-to-back wins for Johnson.
Johnson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malaya Wright led the charge by scoring 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Another player making a difference was Bryahnna Patton, who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
London Blackmon and Raashonda Khalil certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Blackmon dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Khalil dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Khalil scored a full 32.1% of Portal's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Johnson's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Portal, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Johnson will take on Savannah Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portal, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Southeast Bulloch at 6:00 p.m.
