Lead-Deadwood has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Sturgis Brown Scoopers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Lead-Deadwood comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Lead-Deadwood suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against More, falling 48-12. While losing is never fun, Lead-Deadwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while More is ranked 39th).
Meanwhile, Sturgis Brown's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 46-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Thunder Basin.
Lead-Deadwood's defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.3 points per game. As for Sturgis Brown, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Lead-Deadwood was dealt a bruising 58-9 loss at the hands of Sturgis Brown in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Lead-Deadwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
