The Herscher Tigers will challenge the Milford Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Herscher is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
While Herscher's victory against Peotone wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Tuesday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Peotone's batters probably weren't too happy with Payten Young, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up a single walk).
At the plate, Herscher's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Egerton, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Herscher hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Milford came up short against Watseka on Monday and fell 8-4.
Caleb Clutteur was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Beau Wright, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Herscher's win bumped their record up to 28-5. As for Milford, their loss dropped their record down to 13-15.
Milford's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Herscher hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. It's a different story for Milford, though, as they've only averaged .234. Will they be able to contain Herscher's hitters?
Herscher couldn't quite get it done against Milford in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 as they fell 15-11. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
