Columbia is 8-0-1 against Oberlin since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Raiders will welcome the Phoenix at 5:00 p.m. Columbia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Columbia will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Brookside on Friday. The Raiders blew past the Cardinals 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Raiders have posted against the Cardinals since April 18, 2018.
Alina Jones spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Natalie Miller was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Grace Anderson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Columbia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Oberlin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They came up short against Black River, falling 17-1.
Oberlin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Larissa Freas, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Columbia's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Oberlin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12-1.
Oberlin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Columbia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. It's a different story for Oberlin, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Columbia's hitters?
Everything went Columbia's way against Oberlin in their previous meeting back in April, as Columbia made off with a 19-0 victory. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
