Basketball Recap: Grant Clayton Key Part of a Team Effort in Rockets Win

A.C. Reynolds posted their biggest win since March 1, 2024 on Friday. They put the hurt on the Enka Jets with a sharp 71-49 victory. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Jets are ranked 435th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead A.C. Reynolds to victory, but perhaps none more so than Grant Clayton, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds. That's the most boards Clayton has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Declan Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

A.C. Reynolds smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Enka's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Trantham, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Lawson Mcclure, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds.

With the win, A.C. Reynolds broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-7. As for Enka, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A.C. Reynolds will take on Asheville at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday. A.C. Reynolds knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Asheville likes a good challenge. As for Enka, they will square off against T.C. Roberson at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. T.C. Roberson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.
