On Thursday, the Bishop Ryan Lions faced the Westhope/Newburg Sioux in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bishop Ryan sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 56-53 victory over the Sioux. The win was nothing new for Bishop Ryan as they're now sitting on six straight.
Despite the loss, Westhope/Newburg still got an impressive performance from Walker Braaten, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Braaten is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 19 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Braden Bailey, who scored 18 points.
Bishop Ryan's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Westhope/Newburg, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-1.
Bishop Ryan will head out on the road to challenge the Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Trinity's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. As for Westhope/Newburg, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Mustangs at 7:15 p.m.
