Weddington (Matthews, N.C.) had a comfortable lead entering the fourth quarter, but used 14 fourth quarter points to seal the 35-9 victory over
Cuthbertson (Waxhaw, N.C.).
After taking the lead on a
Jeff Welch touchdown pass to
Ryan Black in the second quarter, the Warriors led 21-9 at the half.
Welch and Black teamed up to form a great passing pair. Black caught three touchdowns and Welch threw three. Black has now caught three touchdowns this season, while Welch has thrown three.
Cuthbertson's only touchdown came on a pass in the first quarter.
Weddington had given up an average of 7.3 points prior to the contest. Cuthbertson's nine points were well below their season average of 16.9 per game.
The loss comes after Cuthbertson defeated Marvin Ridge 20-12 last week.
Weddington (7-1) will play a 3A Conference 8 game against Sun Valley next week, while Cuthbertson (3-5) will take on Anson also in a 3A Conference 8 game.
