It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Canutillo Eagles can now relate to. They took a serious blow against the Mavericks on Friday, falling 44-0. Canutillo's defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Canutillo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rene Huerta. Despite the final result, he rushed for 164 yards on only 15 carries. Huerta was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards.
It was another big night for Michael Hawkins, who rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes for Emerson.
Canutillo's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Emerson, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Canutillo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Emerson is on the road again on Friday and play against Rider at 2:00 p.m. on November 24th. Rider is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
