Baseball Game Preview: Salem Hills Skyhawks vs. Spanish Fork Dons

The Salem Hills Skyhawks will head out on the road to face off against the Spanish Fork Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Salem Hills' victory against Timpview wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Skyhawks narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Thunderbirds 18-17. With that victory, the Skyhawks brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Salem Hills got a massive performance out of Kaleb DeGraffenried, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs and two doubles. Those five runs gave DeGraffenried a new career-high. Mason Ward was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Salem Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Spanish Fork came into Tuesday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Wasatch on Tuesday by a score of 2-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dons have posted since March 19, 2024.

Spanish Fork saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nixon Warren, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. Xavier Amonett also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Salem Hills is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Spanish Fork, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-11.

Salem Hills skirted past Spanish Fork 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Skyhawks repeat their success, or do the Dons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
