Baseball Recap: St. Johns Country Day Snags Eighth Victory in Last Ten Games

It's playoff time, and St. Johns Country Day had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Christ's Church Academy Eagles with a sharp 12-2 win on Tuesday. 12 seems to be a good number for the Spartans as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Brayden Harris made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Nick Bowden was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was TJ Sunderhaus, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

St. Johns Country Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Christ's Church Academy only posted an OBP of .333.

St. Johns Country Day is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Christ's Church Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.

Looking ahead, St. Johns Country Day will square off against St. Joseph Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 3.6, the Flashes 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Christ's Church Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
