4A Cowapa recap September 24, 2013
Tillamook's Matt Strang recorded the longest rushing play in 4A Cowapa this season in his game against Taft last week. Strang's team lost to the Tigers as he sprinted for 59 yards on the play and finished with 139 in all.
Seaside added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Newport, 41-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Dylan Sollars put up the best numbers through the air as Astoria fell to W.F. West. He finished with 11 completions for 227 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sollars' favorite target this week was Nick Strange, who caught 6 passes for 85 yards.
Strang was the most successful running back in the league this week. Rafael Gomez also contributed to the rushing game with 95 yards on the ground.
Justice Oman was the best wideout in 4A Cowapa this week as Scappoose fell to Central. Oman racked up 12 receptions for 166 yards.
Strang was a passing and rushing force as Tillamook lost to Taft. Strang's favorite target this week was Isaac Stellflug, who caught 5 passes for 68 yards.
He went 11-18 with 2 interceptions.
Garrett Markham was a key player and the best on defense this week as Banks bested La Salle. The 6-foot-2 senior.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Indians' Taylor Loss and Oman have proven to be a lethal combination. Loss has thrown for 1,033 yards this season, while Oman, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 28 catches for 457 yards. Matt Dickson's team's Strang leads the league in rushing yards with 380.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Braves and Scappoose. Banks enters the game ranked 23rd in the state, while Sean Mcnabb's team ranks 22nd.
The league will see a high scoring game when Ben Buchanan's team and the Indians face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Braves comes in having scored 154 this season, while Scappoose has scored 158. Banks scored 40 points last week as it defeated the Falcons.
The Braves were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting La Salle. Banks came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
