The West Ridge Wolves will head out on the road to square off against the Unaka Rangers at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Ridge is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
On Thursday, West Ridge came up short against Jefferson County and fell 9-5.
Caydence Spears and Zoey Blair put in work while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Spears pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Blair struck out ten batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Spears has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Spears went 3-for-5 with one double, while Blair went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Teagan Tipton was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Unaka suffered their biggest loss since April 11th on Thursday. They came up short against North Greene, falling 13-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Rangers in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost nine in a row.
Like West Ridge, Unaka also got a great game from a two-way player: Kacie Bare. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Bare was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Bare wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Katlyn Dugger, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
West Ridge's record now sits at 11-14. As for Unaka, their record is now 14-7.
Everything went West Ridge's way against Unaka when the teams last played back in March, as West Ridge made off with a 13-3 victory. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
