The Rosary Academy Royals will head out to square off against the Northwood Timberwolves at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rosary Academy will be looking to extend their current 14-game winning streak.
On Monday, Rosary Academy made easy work of Irvine and carried off a 14-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Phillips looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on K'Lene Gutierrez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Domonique McCoy also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Rosary Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in 15 consecutive contests.
Woodbridge hit Northwood with a eight-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Timberwolves lost 14-4 to the Warriors.
Natalie Keith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kiana Park, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Rosary Academy pushed their record up to 23-2-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Northwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Northwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rosary Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Northwood, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Rosary Academy's sizable advantage in that area, the Timberwolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Rosary Academy took their victory against Northwood in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
