The New Milford Green Wave will take on the Brookfield Bobcats at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as New Milford comes in on six and Brookfield on four.
21 must be New Milford's lucky number: they beat Weston with that score not once but twice on Sunday. The Green Wave didn't even let the Trojans on the board, marking the Green Wave's second-straight 21-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Green Wave, who have now won 12 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Maddie Caverly and Lydia Rocky were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Caverly pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Rocky pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Caverly has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Caverly went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Rocky went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, New Milford got a massive performance out of Ava Kopp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mairead Bell, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
New Milford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .605. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Brookfield posted their closest victory since April 21st on Sunday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past New Fairfield 2-0.
Brookfield's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Pontecorvo, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Brookfield pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for New Milford, their record now sits at 15-4.
New Milford skirted past Brookfield 7-6 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Green Wave since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
