The Hesston Swathers will head out on the road to face off against the Collegiate Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Hesston strolled past Chapman with points to spare, taking the game 34-20. The win made it back-to-back wins for Hesston.
Hesston can attribute much of their success to Karter Gonzalez, who rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. Gonzalez's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Deutschendorf, who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, Collegiate got themselves on the board against Trinity Academy on Friday, but Trinity Academy never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Knights 56-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Collegiate, who have now won six contests by 35 points or more so far this season.
Hesston's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-5 Chapman and 2-5 Trinity Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.1% over those games). Collegiate has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven contests, giving them a 6-1 record.
Hesston came up short against Collegiate in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 28-21. Can Hesston avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
