Baseball Recap: Groveton Drops Highest Score of Season Against Pittsburg

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Groveton). Everything went their way against the Pittsburg Panthers on Monday as they made off with a 26-3 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Brody Platt and Brocton Meunier made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Platt tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Meunier tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Platt went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Meunier went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs. Those hits were Platt's first of the season.

In other batting news, Konner Shannon and Dylan Simino did most of the damage at the plate: Shannon went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Simino went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Ashton Kenison was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs.

Groveton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Groveton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Pittsburg, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Groveton will venture away from home to take on Gorham at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Pittsburg has already played their next matchup (against Lin-Wood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
