Bishop Canevin came out on top against Springdale on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Crusaders were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Dynamos. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Crusaders considering their two-run performance the match before.
Tyler Maddix made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Wagner, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Bishop Canevin: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Aaryn Edwards was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Bishop Canevin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Clairton's offense. They came up short against Serra Catholic on Tuesday, falling 15-0. The defeat leaves the Bears still looking for their first win of the season.
Clairton's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Bishop Canevin, their record is now 6-4.
Clairton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop Canevin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. It's a different story for Clairton, though, as they've only averaged .268. Will they be able to contain Bishop Canevin's hitters?
