The Hamden Hall Country Day Hornets will challenge the Brunswick School Bruins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Hamden Hall Country Day has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Hamden Hall Country Day sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Avon Old Farms.
Hamden Hall Country Day got a great performance from AJ Park as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Park has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hamden Hall Country Day saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Reyes, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brunswick School). They put the hurt on Greens Farms Academy with a sharp 15-3 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won six in a row.
Johnny Gally tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Michael Marini was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Montanez, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Brunswick School hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greens Farms Academy struck out ten times.
Brunswick School's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Hamden Hall Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.
Hamden Hall Country Day came out on top in a nail-biter against Brunswick School in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bruins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
